COSMOS concepts to be used for the lab This project is directly related to the COSMOS testbed because it uses transmission of data from sensors to an interface using wireless signals. In addition, students will be introduced to the concept that the testbed can be used to create remote wifi networks to collect and visualize data. Therefore, in the future the testbed can be used to gather data in realtime at a larger scale.

  • Develop a strategic approach to organizing data.
  • Investigate what it means to find the mean, median and mode.
  • Use the COSMOS Toolkit to collect data to analyze.
  • Student record the temperature, humidity, and CO2 levels for 7 days.
Short Description and Walk-through of the experiment Students will measure CO2, humidity, and temperature of two separate locations (Classroom, cafeteria, or gym) over a week-long period in order to understand the relationship between numbers in a data set through calculations of measures of central tendency as well as other introductory descriptive statistics.
Testbed mapping of the experiment The COSMOS testbed can use different types of sensors to collect data to manage assets and resources efficiently. In future, COSMOS testbed can be used to collect temperature, humidity, Co2, noise levels, and other quality of life indicators in real time to improve the lives of residents and visitors. Since COSMOS testbed has various physical devices connected to the IoT network we can use it to optimize the efficiency of city operations and services. For example, we can avoid traffic jams, help drivers finding a parking spot, report a crime, pothole, or an overflowing dumpster. COSMOS Testbed can monitor what is happening in a neighborhood and how it affects overall living standards of people in the area and make more efficient deployment of physical infrastructure and resources. COSMOS Testbed has endless possibilities; additional devices sensors can be added to the existing hardware to monitor and address environmental concerns such as climate change and disaster response. We can use the data to be collected by COSMOS Testbed to create solutions, optimize operations and asset management and improve the quality of life for Harlem residents.
