A reservation always targets a specific domain — an isolated environment with its own console and control network. The COSMOS / ORBIT domains form three tiers:

The legacy ORBIT outdoor deployment: ~22 fixed and mobile radio nodes spread across the WINLAB site on Route 1 (North Brunswick) and the Core Building on Busch Campus (Piscataway), plus netbooks and Android phones addressed by column groups (1-x fixed, 2-x mobile, 3-x laptops, 4-x phones).
A small model intersection built inside the ORBIT grid room at WINLAB, scaled to the 120th Street × Amsterdam Avenue intersection in NYC (next to Columbia University). Wired for model-car self-driving experiments, V2X messaging, and intersection-perception research.

Indoor industrial / advanced-manufacturing experiment site at Rutgers NJAMI / Weeks Hall — part of the Pilot 5G Factory in Weeks Hall collaboration with Siemens. Focus: low-latency, high-reliability private 5G integrated with edge computing for reconfigurable manufacturing floors.

A small number of COSMOS subdomains are allocated to specific funded research projects. They are not generally available for open reservation, and the project rosters are not published here.
If you are a member of one of these project teams, your sysadmin will have added you to the appropriate LDAP group; the relevant per-project documentation is then linked from your private team workspace in the wiki.

Migration note. As COSMOS development continues, several of the ORBIT-named sandboxes (
sb1throughsb4) will be renamed and renumbered to fit the COSMOS naming scheme. Until that physical move happens these pages are kept under their current ORBIT names; redirects will be added when the rename occurs.
