This section is the per-component reference for the COSMOS / ORBIT testbeds: every domain you can reserve, every node and chassis-manager generation, every radio device and antenna, the support infrastructure that ties them together, and the integrated subsystems built on top.
The pages here describe what the hardware is. For how to use it, see Getting Started, Tutorials, and Software.

A reservation always targets a specific domain — an isolated environment with its own console and control network. The domains form three tiers.
| Domain | Where | Description |
|---|---|---|
| BED | West Harlem rooftops, NYC | The main COSMOS testbed: outdoor SDR pairs (N310 + USRP-2974) on rooftops and street level, 28 GHz mmWave PAAM, optical x-haul, edge compute. |
| Grid | WINLAB, Rutgers, NJ | The indoor testbed (legacy ORBIT 20×20 radio grid) plus the X310 massive-MIMO mini-racks and noise-injection instrumentation. |
Reservable by any testbed user. Each has a focused capability:
| Subdomain | Where | What's special |
|---|---|---|
| Sandboxes | NJ + NYC | Small isolated environments for development and debugging — sb4 (attenuator matrix), sb5 (B210), sb6 (X310), sb7 (N210), sb9 (wired/FPGA/GPU), plus sb1.cosmos, sb2.cosmos (Columbia), instrument.cosmos |
| Indoor | WINLAB, NJ | The indoor deployment rig in the ORBIT room (formerly named "outdoor") |
| Minicity | WINLAB (ORBIT room), NJ | Scaled-model smart intersection — vehicle and roadside-unit testbed with cameras, lidar, radios |
| Weeks | Weeks Hall, Rutgers Busch campus, NJ | Industry 4.0 setup — manufacturing-floor wireless with an X310 and instrumentation |
osc, accord, rrail, indigo and nebula are allocated to specific COSMOS projects and are not generally available for open reservation. The O-RU pool can be scheduled into several of them.

|---|---|---|
| USRP B210 (USB) | SB5, grid nodes | B210 |
| USRP N210 + SBX (gigE) | SB7, grid | N210 |
| USRP X310 (10 G, RFNoC) | SB6, grid MIMO mini-racks (rows 23–24), weeks | X310 |
| USRP N310 (4-channel) | BED rooftops, sb1.cosmos | N310 |
| USRP 2974 (X310 + embedded x86) | BED (paired with N310s), sb1.cosmos | 2974 |
| USRP E312 (battery, embedded) | portable | E312 |

Where exactly is each unit? → USRP deployment maps (generated from the live inventory).
Two instruments let you shape the RF environment instead of hoping for it:

| Compute | Edge servers, GPU-equipped hosts, back-end machines |
| Optical | OpenROADM x-haul, FibroLan PTP-aware Ethernet switches, free-space optical |
| Network | Data-plane switches, control-plane DHCP/DNS, console interconnect |
